CUSO volunteer awarded journalism prize for human rights

A Cuso International volunteer in Peru wins third in Regional Award for Journalism, Poverty and Human Rights in the Andean Region.
The Inter-American Institute for Human Rights presented the third-place award to Annie Thériault for her article “Pulmones con cavernas” (Caved Lungs), published in Revista Ideele magazine.
Thériault is a volunteer with Cuso International partner and non-governmental organization Instituto de Defensa Legal (IDL).
The winning article investigated Peru's MDR-form tuberculosis epidemic, its ties to poverty, malnutrition and unorthodox practices.
The annual Regional Award for Journalism, Poverty and Human Rights was founded in an effort to increase the quantity and quality of human rights reporting by recognizing the outstanding work of journalists in the Andean Region. It is organized by the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights, based in San José, Costa Rica, and is open to journalists in Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia and Bolivia whose work addresses poverty, exclusion and inequality.
